Joining Columns of Data in Excel

There are a few ways to join data in Excel. One way is to use Excel’s Flash Fill feature. This feature can be used to combine multiple columns of data into a single column or even separate a single column of data into multiple columns. 

If you need to join two columns of data

  • Select the cell in the next column along from the two columns containing the data to be joined
  • Type the first item of data from the first column together with the first item of data from the second column, then press Enter to move down to the next cell
  • Start typing the second item of data from the first column
  • Excel will see a pattern emerging and show a preview of the rest of the column filled in with the combined text
  • Press Enter to accept the preview
